Blake Shell is an artist who began by creating experimental video art and abstract photographic images. Since then her work has moved beyond the beautiful abstractions, to include finely interwoven conceptual thought. Blake Shell’s work has recently been noticed for its unusual combination of text and imagery from the internet, often taken from fetish groups. Her fascination with the internet, and its position as a catalyst for new ways of thinking and living, has lead to remarkable artworks. After a controversial MFA thesis show, several galleries have chosen Shell’s work for noteworthy group shows. Her work has recently been shown alongside the works of Bill Viola and Nam June Paik, visualizing the progression from seminal video artists to a new generation of digital artists. resume statement contact website
