Peter HappelChristian and Michael Sherwin:
Vanishing Points
Peter HappelChristian and Michael Sherwin first met while in the MFA Photography Program at the University of Oregon. The two artists explore similar mediums and related concepts in their work, and have stayed in close contact, while Sherwin is currently living in Jackson, Wyoming and HappelChristian’s adopted home is Tucson.
Photographs are a false documentation, with incomplete and fragmented views of the natural world. With this in mind, each artist has created their own concept and methods of documenting the world. Repetition, typological comparisons, and strict documentary approaches are used to create the artwork, while the results are surprisingly delicate and seductive. Methods overlap, projects are repetitive and obsessive at points, but these artists always keep their greatest focus on the mystery and beauty of the natural world surrounding them.
HappelChristian’s work has been on display in the University of Arizona Museum of Art, Dinnneware Contemporary Arts, Metroform Gallery, and the Tucson Museum of Art. Sherwin’s work has been featured in Photo Review and Splash Magazine, and is in the University of Oregon’s Art History department’s permanent collection.
