Hilary Meehan:
That alchemical taste in my mouth:
facts, reactions, & tools
Hilary Meehan explodes onto the Tucson art scene with her outstanding exhibition at Dinnerware Contemporary Arts. Installation work in the vein of Jonathan Borofsky and Michael Craig- Martin, Meehan’s art is sleek and contemporary with a conceptual edge. Removed from the boundaries of paper and paint, her humorous oversized drawings, sculptures, and neon works are striking and graphic.
An MFA graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, Meehan has created her own world of oversized teddy bears, lead balloons, and cartoonish TNT explosives. The symbols that she selects create a feeling of childlike innocence, but are oddly paired with the intellect and wit of a very experienced and creative artist.
